Man nabbed for pointing gun at live-in partner in Cebu City

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Cebu City police will file complaints of alarm and scandal, disobedience of persons in authority and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against a 61-year-old man who went amok and pointed his gun to his live-in-partner inside his house in Sitio Tangkungan in Barangay Sambag 1 in Cebu City on Tuesday, December 13, 2022.

Police Major Nolan Tagsip, chief of Abellana Police Station, identified the suspect as Rey Pesquera, 61.

In an interview, Barangay Sambag 1 village chief Aileen Guardo said that at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday, a concerned citizen went to the barangay hall to ask for assistance after Pesquera allegedly pointed a gun to his live-in-partner.

“Ang nahitabo kay ang asawa gisugo unya basin nadugay-dugay pod, wa sad ta kabalo sa unsay naas hunahuna niya. Pag abot, gi ti-unanan og armas, maong nagpatabang siya,” Guardo said.

Tagsip said that they negotiated with the suspect for three hours. Around 1 p.m., they had the opportunity to corner the suspect after he asked for a glass of water.

The police and members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team immediately arrested the suspect. 

According to Tagsip, they did not recover the firearms there but they found several pieces of ammunition of 9mm pistol and M16 rifle. 

Tagsip  clarified that there was no hostage taking that happened in the area. The suspect was immediately brought to the hospital due to high blood pressure.
