There will be an eight-hour water interruption mostly in the northern part of Metropolitan Cebu Water District’s (MCWD) franchise area on Saturday.
The public is advised to store as the water stops flowing from 8 am to 4 pm tomorrow as the water pipes of Cebu Manila Water Development Inc. will be connected to the main line of the MCWD.
Ernie Delco, general manager of MCWD said this is in line with the connection of the 35,000 million liters per day bulk water supply from Carmen, Cebu.
Among the areas that may be affected will be portions of Compostela, Lilo-an, Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu City and the entire service area of Consolacion town.
Interconnection works will be done in three injection points which are in the towns of Compostela, Lilo-an and Consolacion.
The bulk water supply will augment the water supply and increase the water pressure of MCWD.
Delco said in a radio interview that this is a welcome development as the entry of the water from Carmen, which is sourced from surface water, would mean less pressure in the groundwater.
After the water interconnection, MCWD will soon focus on expanding their water coverage, which according to Delco would take another year.
Currently, MCWD only caters to the 43 percent of households in its franchise area.
