A 13-year-old boy was wounded after a firecracker exploded in his hand in barangay Magcagong, Sibonga town, southern Cebu.

Luckily, the boy just sustained minor cuts in the fingers.

Police said the boy found the triangular-shaped firecracker while he and his mother were on their way to the church last Thursday morning.

PO2 Ederlino Bacusmo of the Sibonga Police Station said the mother was unaware that her son had matches with him.

While waiting for a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire), the boy lit the firecracker, which exploded before he could throw it, police said.

The boy was brought to a clinic for treatment, police said.
