Despite the delays in the shipment of additional steel components, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it will make good on their promise to make the damaged Dumlog bridge in Sibonga town passable before the Sinulog grand parade on Jan. 18.
Ador Canlas, DPWH regional director for Central Visayas, said the temporary two-lane steel bridge will be passable by January 16 or 17.
“We are following a timeframe. Because of this, we need to catch up,” saidEngr. Elvis Calunod, chief of the DPWH maintenance division.
The shipment from Cagayan de Oro City containing steel parts for the temporary steel-bridge was supposed to arrive Wednesday. It arrived a day after.
A dump truck, prime mover, and a trailer containing steel beams were supposed to arrive in Cebu City from Cagayan de Oro City.
But the shipping company refused to load the cargo, saying it will overload the vessel.
The additional parts arrived yesterday after DPWH arranged the shipment with another shipping line.
“They probably had other cargo they thought had to be prioritized more, but the completion of this bridge is (our) priority,” said Calunod.
Canlas said the steel bridge will be mounted on the existing Dumlog Bridge today and have the same carrying capacity of 20 tons.
