Tuburan, Talisay bag top prize

Male dancers walked on bamboo stilts or “karang”.

Smooth moves and a theme that highlighted the abundance of bamboo in their midnorth town, won first prize for Tuburan municipalitiy’s Tinubdan sa Kauswagan Culturang Troupe.

This is the second straight year Tuburan topped the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan, a parade and competition of public schools in Cebu province.

The contingent had 100 performers and 337 propsmen on stage yesterday.

Talisay City Central School gives their best performance and emerges the champion in the elementary division.

Fernando Cabrillas, the choreographer, Cabrillas said they rehearsed for three months  and spent at least P4 million for the whole production.

Talisay City Elementary Division, with pupils in yellow and black costumes,  defended their title as grand champion in the elementary division.

Their backdrop scenery changed at least three times to show different eras from the time of Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi to scenes of discovering the image of the Sto. Niño in in Basak-San Nicolas.

They drew the loudest cheers from the audience with their  backdrops presenting  different images of the Holy Child.

Mandaue Opao Elementary School in the elementary division places second.
