CEBU CITY, Philippines — Showcasing the Bogohanon brand of sports will be one of the goals of the Felipe R. Verallo Foundation College Blue Dragons when they compete in the Cesafi.
Also known as the “Blue Dragons” FRV College became the 10th and newest member school of Cesafi after the latter’s board members approved its application earlier this week.
FRV College executive vice president Janice Maglasang who also serves as the men’s basketball team manager told CDN Digital that sports is one of the areas the school is tapping to mold the character of their students.
“FRV College has always believed in molding the potential of our Bogohanons,” said Maglasang in an interview.
“The past few years we’ve dedicated ourselves to talent development in different fields. This year, we’ve started to develop our sports department more and what better way to test the limits and aim for continuous growth for our athletes than joining Cebu’s most prestigious sports association,” Maglasang added.
JUST A DREAM
Also, she revealed that joining Cesafi was once just a dream for their school until four years ago when they slowly shifted their focus more on the growth and progress of their community which involves sports.
However, they kept their Cesafi application low-key to surprise their students and also not to hinder their plans.
“We are a humble school all the way in the North of Cebu. Joining Cesafi was something that we never knew could be possible. Since we’ve dedicated ourselves to betterment, we decided to take on the challenge of joining CESAFI,” added Maglasang.
SPORTSMANSHIP & CAMARADERIE
Maglasang describes the Blue Dragons AS highly competitive but with sportsmanship and camaraderie always on their minds. Their student-athletes are already raring to get into action, especially their men’s basketball team, she said.
FRV College has tapped former University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) veteran coach Titing Manalili to lead their Cesafi men’s basketball team.
“We pride ourselves on playing with sportsmanship and camaraderie because of the sport/s we love. We look forward to taking part in a community of excellent Cebuano athletes and developing each other better. Dragons are a symbol of strength, goodness, courage, and endurance, as well as emblems of vigilance, security, and the spirit of change. We’re the FRV College Blue Dragons. We’re excited to bring all these and fire to the arena,” Maglasang stated.
The FVR College Blue Dragons are yet to announce the other sports events they will be joining in the upcoming 23rd Cesafi season which opens this September. /rcg
