Batch 2001 win second straight in SHAABAA

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The ARQ Builders-Batch 2001 logged back-to-back victories after beating Speed Demon Vivant-Batch 1994/95/96, 60-51, in Division A of the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 26 at the Magis Eagles Arena in Mandaue City on Wednesday evening, August 30, 2023.

The win followed Batch 2001’s 68-65 win against Division A’s defending champions, Core Pacific Money Exchange-Batch 2000.

Mark Hing and ARQ Sports boxing promoter Jason Arquisola led Batch 2021 with their respective double-double games. Hing tallied 14 points with 13 rebounds, two assists, four steals, and two blocks. Arquisola logged 13 points with 13 boards, six assists, and five steals. 

Their teammates Joseph Rey Reoma and Carlo Villarica chipped in 10 points apiece. 

Meanwhile, Batch 1994’s Dave Mark Uy and Junie Alejandro scored 15 and 10 points in Speed Demon Vivant’s losing efforts. 

On the other hand, Batch 2000 bounced back from their Sunday loss by clobbering SENTRAL Bar & Lounge-Batch 2002, 95-39.

Five of Batch 2000’s players scored double digits headed by team owner and SHAABAA chairman Afshin Ghassemi, who scored 19 points with four rebounds and three assists.

Serg Al Go Bui and Albert Chua added 12 points each, while Joseph Lo and Johannes Chua had 10 points apiece for Batch 2000. 

Batch 2002’s Ryan Zear Lauco was the lone double-digit scorer with 11 points. 

In Division B, Bigatin Trading-Batch 2008 routed Gateway Motors-Batch 2007, 69-50, behind Jonathan Cimafranca’s 16-point performance. He also had eight boards, four assists, two steals, and one block. 

Ed Bonphyl Macasling and Elmer Mikey Cabahug scored 14 points each. 

Karl Antonius De Pio spoiled his double-double outing of 18 points with 24 rebounds for Batch 2007. 

Lastly, Division C defending champion Heritage Supreme Land Developer-Batch 2012 obliterated Batch 2021, 92-64.

Adven Jess Diputado erupted for 48 points with four rebounds and two assists. His teammate Dave Wilson Yu tallied a rare triple-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. 

Walter Franz Yu, Rey Marcus Fuentes, and Martin Patrick Dumon scored 12, 10, and 10 points, respectively, in Batch 2021’s losing efforts.
