CEBU CITY, Philippines – A motorcycle collision that happened along the Transcentral Highway in Barangay Gaas in Balamban, Cebu on Saturday morning, Sept. 16, 2023, claimed the lives of three individuals.
The fatalities were identified as George Untalan, 54; Dominador Bragat Jr., 34; and Kate Ponce, who was Bragat’s backrider.
Untalan is a resident of 104 Esteban Luna Street, Parañaque City. Bragat, on the other hand, is from Villa Kalubihan, Basak San Nicolas in Cebu City.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Glenn Hife, chief of Balamban Police Station, said that the two motorcycle riders were traveling on opposite directions.
Untalan came from the west and was headed for Cebu City while Bragat and Ponce were headed for Balamban town.
Quoting the outcome of their initial investigation, police said that the two motorcycles collided when they reached a downhill curve with a solid yellow lane located at the vicinity of West 35 Eco Mountain Resort.
According to witnesses, Untalan tried to overtake a vehicle that was travelling ahead of him, the reason why he encroached the other lane and collided with the approaching motorcycle that was driven by Bragat.
The accident happened at around 10:15 a.m. and was reported to the police at 11:20 a.m.
Hife said that all of the three victims where thrown from their motorcycles and landed on the cemented road. The three sustained serious multiple injuries on the different parts of their bodies and were rushed to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban, but they no longer made it to the hospital alive.
They were still waiting for relatives to claim the bodies of the three victims while the two motorcycles are now kept at the Gaas Barangay Hall, Hife said. / dcb
