The lawyer for Vice Mayor Efren Guntrano Gica called on the Cebu Provincial Board (PB) to impose the six-month suspension on Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia.
“It would be an awkward decision on the part of the committee at this stage because it would now amend the action of the board, which I believe, cannot be done,” lawyer Edgar Gica, the vice mayor’s father told reporters yesterday.
The PB recently ruled on the six-month suspension of Garcia for appointing a town council secretary, a function reserved for the vice mayor, about two years ago.
Garcia’s appointment of Emmylou Cabonillas as town council secretary in 2013 prompted Vice Mayor Gica to file charges of grave misconduct and grave abuse of authority against him before the provincial board.
PB member Arleigh Sitoy, chairman of the committee on complaints and investigation, said a resolution on the request will be reached next week.
