CEBU CITY, Philippines — An all-Bogohanon basketball showdown will highlight the opening of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) 2023 Season on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Felipe R. Verallo Foundation College Blue Dragons and the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs will square off in the first college division basketball match during the opening ceremony.
This was announced by Cesafi after it also revealed its full basketball tournament schedule earlier this week.
Both the Blue Dragons and Mustangs are newcomers in the Cesafi. The two schools were welcomed to Cesafi last month after their respective applications were approved by the latter’s board of officials.
Their game will kick off at 5:30 p.m., while the first game will feature the returning Don Bosco Technology (DBTC) Greywolves who will go up against the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons at 4 p.m.
On Sunday, September 24, two high school games and two college games will be featured.
The first game pits University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors against the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) Baby Webmasters in the first game at 12:30 p.m.
It will be followed by the high school first-runners-up, the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers versus the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars at 2 p.m.
The college games will feature newcomers University of the Philippines (UP) Cebu Fighting Maroons and the Benedicto College at 3:30 p.m.
The last game will have USC Warriors and the USJ-R Jaguars at 5 p.m.
The reigning men’s basketball champions, the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, will have their first in-season game on September 30 against UP-Cebu.
Meanwhile, high school basketball champions, the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles will open their season with a date with the Baby Jaguars on Sept. 28. / dcb
