CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles bounced back strong from their opening game defeat with a dominant 34-point beating of the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 91-57, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) high school basketball on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Team captain Jared Bahay and guard Rodolfo Maglasang topscored the Magis Eagles by unloading 19 points apiece.
Xeenon Cuyos and Rezald Dacalos combined for 15 points as the high school defending champions entered the winning column after their lopsided defeat in the hands of the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, 40-62, last September 28.
Andrew Tapia and Neil Ibarita had 15 and 12 points, respectively, for the USC Baby Warriors which absorbed their second straight defeat in the league, while the Magis Eagles improved to a 1-1 (win-loss) record.
UCLM 69, CBSAA 66
Meanwhile, the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu Mandaue (UCLM) Webmasters are now 2-0 after narrowly defeating the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers, 69-66, in the other high school game on Sunday.
Revo Lao, once again shone for UCLM after leading his team in scoring with 15 points.
Kian Luchavez contributed 11 points UCLM, while Vinz Rivera had 20 points for CBSAA which dropped to 0-2 in the team standings.
Ryko Batuigas chipped in 13 markers in CBSAA’s losing efforts.
The Magis Eagles will return into action on October 8 against UV Baby Green Lancers at 2 p.m., while UCLM plays on October 7 against the CEC Dragons at 2 p.m. / dcb
