CEBU, Philippines—Typhoon Jenny, which has an international name of Koinu, has intensified, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m bulletin on Monday, October 2, 2023.
Typhoon Jenny now packs maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (km/h) near its center, which is located 600 kilometers sast of Calayan, Cagayan as of 10 a.m. on Monday.
The typhoon has gustiness of up to 170 km/h, and central pressure of 965 hPa. It is moving northwestward at 15 km/h.
Strong to typhoon-force winds extend outwards up to 560 km from the center, the bulletin said.
Signal no. 1
Due to the typhoon, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is raised in some parts of Luzon.
These areas are: Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, northern and eastern portion of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan, Santa Maria, San Pablo, Tumauini, Cabagan, Ilagan City, San Mariano, Santo Tomas), Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Carasi, Vintar, Burgos, Dumalneg, Bangui, Pagudpud, Adams).
The typhoon, which is forecast to steadily intensify throughout the forecast period and may reach its peak intensity on Tuesday, will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portions of Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in the next three days.
