The victim was allegedly on his way home alone after drinking with his friends in a nearby food park when the accident happened.

Meanwhile, the other vehicle involved in the fatal vehicular accident was a wing van of a private company used for deliveries.

The wing van was driven by the company’s 61-year-old driver who is a resident of B. Rodriguez, Barangay Sambag, Cebu City.

Initial investigation of the Liloan Police Station revealed that both vehicles were traveling in opposite directions along the highway when the collision took place.

The wing van was heading in the north direction while the motorcycle was heading to the south.

Patrolman Jicliff Guilaran, traffic investigator from the Liloan Police Station, told CDN Digital in a phone interview that upon the arrival of responding officers, the victim was already motionless and lying on the ground. His motorcycle was a few meters away from his body.

Guilaran said that the driver of the wing van was the only witness to the incident and told police what he saw.

The driver narrated to police that upon reaching the area where the accident happened, the teenage rider allegedly encroached on his lane while overtaking another vehicle.

Guilaran stated that the motorcycle rider hit the side mirror of the van and fell down with his head hitting the ground hard.

The victim sustained various injuries on his body particularly on his head due to the impact even if he was wearing a helmet, he added.

The motorcycle rider was declared dead on the spot by emergency personnel. The victim’s cadaver was brought to the Maturan Funeral Homes located in the barangay.

Guilaran said that the parents of the victim were present at the scene of the accident when the police arrived.

He said that the parents of the teenage rider and the van driver agreed to settle amicably.

The parents have allegedly chosen not to file a case after the driver of the van, and his employer, promised to give financial assistance to the victim’s family.

Liloan is a first-class municipality located approximately 22 kilometers north of Cebu City. /rcg
