CEBU CITY, Philippines – Police in Cebu City are investigating the killing of an ex-convict who was shot dead as he was crossing V. Rama Avenue on Friday night, October 6, 2023.

The victim, whom witnesses identified as Jonathan Plarisan Nacional, died from four bullet wounds on his body.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Rene Remedios, desk officer at the Sawang Calero Police Station, said that the shooting incident happened at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday, but it was reported to the police at 10:55 p.m.

According to Remedios, the victim came from the vicinity of the Calamba Cemetery and was crossing to the other side of the national highway when he was attacked.

The victim was also a resident of Barangay Calamba.

Quoting the outcome of their initial investigation, Remedios said that a lone assailant was responsible for killing Nacional, not two as reported earlier.

Eyewitnesses identified the gunman as a certain “Irish.”

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered four empty shells from a .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Police are looking at Nacional’s possible involvement in illegal drugs as the motive for his killing. The victim was reportedly jailed earlier for a drug-related offense. / dcb
