Villa, 13 years old, tops SUGBU Bowling Shootout tourney

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Michael John “MJ” Villa captured the title of the Sugbuanon Bowlers United (SUGBU) Bowling Shootout Tournament on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at the SM Seaside City Cebu Bowling Center.

The 13-year-old bowling prospect currently developed by SUGBU as its future elite kegler became the group’s youngest member to win its regular tournament last Sunday.

Villa defeated older and more experienced keglers by scoring a total of 775 pinfalls. He averaged 193.75 pinfalls in the four-game series tournament.

He edged former “Bowler of the Month” Rene Ceniza and Tess Regino who settled for second and third places, respectively. 

The victory qualified Villa for the “Bowler of the Month” tournament slated at the end of this month along with other qualifiers.

Villa scored 211 pinfalls in the second round which served as his best game in the tournament competed by 17 other keglers.

Ceniza scored 767 pinfalls, while Regino tallied 728 pinfalls. 

The fourth to 10th placers in last Sunday’s tournament were Orly Enoveso (719), Lemuel Paquibut (704), Johna Calipay (699), SUGBU president Edgar Alqueza (698), Geff Buyco (698), Vivian Padawan (697), and Heber Alqueza (694).
