MANILA, Philippines — “Know who your true friends are,” Vice President Sara Duterte said in a video posted on her Facebook account.
Duterte uploaded the video with the caption “Pahayag” (Filipino for “statement”) after the House of Representatives removed the confidential funds allotted to the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education, which she both heads.
In one part of the video, she said in Filipino: “Don’t take part in any sort of oppression. Instead, in times of difficulty, observe and know who your true friends are beside you. Everything in this world has its right time.”
Duterte had earlier released a written statement mentioning her proposed confidential funds. She followed up this video, adding comments about true friends.
In the video, Duterte also recited in Filipino, a Bible verse from the Book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 to 8:
“For everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted, time to kill, and a time to heal, a time to break down, and a time to build up, time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance, a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together, a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing, time to seek, and a time to lose, a time to keep, and a time to throw away, time to tear, and a time to sew, a time to keep silence, and a time to speak, a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace.”
