Fire in Brgy Basak San Nicolas destroys P1.6M worth of properties, 16 individuals displaced

CEBU CITY, Philippines – A fire that broke out in Barangay Basak San Nicolas in Cebu City early on Thursday morning, October 19, destroyed P1.6 million worth of properties.

The fire also displaced a total of 16 individuals, according to Senior Fire Officer (SFO2) Wendell Villanueva, information officer of the Cebu City Fire Station.

Quoting the outcome of their initial investigation, Villanueva said the fire was traced to have started at the house owned by Cherry Ornopia and is being occupied by Junrey Cañete.

The CCFS, Villanueva said, received the call for assistance at 3:22 a.m. on Thursday.  A total of 45 firetrucks, including that of fire volunteers, responded to the fire scene.

According to a report released by the CCFS, the fire was raised to second alarm at 3:35 a.m. before it was placed under control 13 minutes later or at 3:48 a.m.

The fire was put out at 3:56 a.m. The fire burned four houses and partially damaged two others.  These structures were made from a combination of light and concrete materials.

Villanueva said that the fire left four families consisting of 16 individuals homeless.  But the number could still change as they conduct further assessment.

Luckily, no one was injured when the fire broke out.

As of this writing, Villanueva said they continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
