Over 500 beneficiaries receive free medical services in Guadalupe

CEBU CITY, Philippines — Over 500 patients mostly composed of children, women, and elders from Barangay Guadalupe in Cebu City benefited from a medical mission program on Friday, October 20.

The program was dubbed as ‘Ginhawang Barangayan’ which was spearheaded by a popular drugstore in the Philippines and took place at Guadalupe Sports Complex.

P50,000 aid for over 500 beneficiaries

According to Cebu City Councilor Rey Gealon, the event was facilitated by his office in which they bought P50,000 worth of medicines and vitamins that were given to the beneficiaries.

According to the Cebu City Mobile Force Company who were also there to provide security, among the free medical services offered by the program to the beneficiaries were medical and dental checkup, medical consultation, and giving of multivitamins, medicines, and health awareness.

Moreover, Gealon said that the Cebu City Health Department sent around 15 personnel including doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and dieticians headed by Dr. Daisy Villa and some from the private sector to facilitate the event.

Gealon cited the reason for the free medical services citing Christmas time being a time for sharing, and loving.

He also thanked those who helped make the event possible such as Rep. Edu Rama, a pharmacy and a drug manufacturing firm.

Ginhawang Barangayan program

Gealon said that he was looking forward to another edition of medical mission in another barangay in the months to come.

The “Ginhawang Barangayan program” is a partnership with a private drugstore and the city government.

The program’s first run was held last June 30, 2023 in Brgy. Sta. Ana in the Municipality of Pateros.
