Barangay, SK Elections: What should voters prepare prior to voting?

Barangay and SK Elections

CEBU CITY, Philippines — An official from the Commission on Elections in Central Visayas (Comelec-7) is urging voters for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to be prepared on the election day.

Lawyer Lionel Marco Castillano, Comelec-7 director, said that before the voters arrive in their respective precincts, it would be best to have a list of who they would be voting for.

“Kay para paspas ang atong pagbutar [ug] di pud sila masipyat. Kay and tendency raba anang uban, maghangad-hangad,” Castillano said.

(So that it will be faster for us to vote and you won’t make a mistake. Because the tendency for some is they will take time in  thinking who to vote for.)

According to Castillano, some voters would take time in finding the name of their candidate and this would eventually take extra time when voting.

There would also be instances where the voters would keep on erasing the names of their selected candidates.

“Pwerte nang labara, nagka langay na. That is why we advise [to secure a list] labi na kung ang imong edad 18 to 30, duha baya imong balota, SK ug barangay,” he said.

(That’s so chaotic, it will take time. That is why we advise to secure a list especially for those aged 18-30, becaise they will have two ballots, one for SK and one for Barangay.)

Moreover, Castillano said that voters should provide a list written on a paper and not on the phone.

“Usually, dili pwede man gud picturan ang imohang balota. Moa nang kung mag open-open ka’g phone basin ma question ka ga nag picture ka sa balota. Mas maayo isuwat nalang gyud nimo,” Castillano added.

(Usually, a ballot cannot be photographed. That’s why if you use your cellphone when voting, you might be questioned. It’s better to write it down on a paper.)

Among the things that the voters should do under the Comelec Resolution No. 10924 are to make a list or “kodigo” of candidates they would vote for to avoid erasures. Meanwhile under the resolution, voters should not take pictures of their accomplished ballot.
