Cesafi suspends CBSAA’s Franz Jefferey Aballe, three referees

CEBU CITY,  Philippines—The Cesafi has slapped a two-game suspension on Franz Jefferey Aballe of the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) for “intentionally causing physical harm to Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC)  Magis Eagle Niclas Yu.” 

Aballe is also fined P10,000 and made to render four hours community service.

The league also suspended for two games the three referees of the SHS-AdC vs CBSAA game. 

The Cesafi announced this through a memorandum dated October 23, 2023. 

“Upon the recommendation of the Technical Committee together with Cesafi legal counsel and deputy commissioner Atty. Jesus D. Velez, after thorough review and deliberation and citing Rule VII.3.3 of the Cesafi Ground Rules & Regulations, Cesafi Commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy SUSPENDS City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy Trailblazers Franz Jeffrey Aballe for two games, fined P10,000.00 and to render 4 hours community service,” part of the statement reads.

The Cesafi also issued a stern warning to the CBSAA.

“Any similar incident involving any member of their team, their remaining games will be cancelled and may jeopardize their participation next season,” the Cesafi said.

The said incident, whose video is making rounds online, happened in the game last October 22 at the Cebu Coliseum, which the Magis Eagles won by a mile, 88-41.

The suspension comes just a week after a player from another team from the City of Bogo was suspended.

Last October 15, the Cesafi also suspended Keaton Clyde Taburnal of the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Both CRMC and CBSAA are teams from the City of Bogo in northern Cebu.
