CEBU CITY, Philippines—- Filipino boxer Judy Flores passed the official weigh-in for his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Global super flyweight title bout against hometown boxer Andrew Moloney at the Pullman Hotel in Albert Park City, Australia on Saturday, December 9, 2023.
Flores of Sanman Boxing Gym tipped the weighing scales on Friday’s official weigh-in at 115 pounds, while Moloney stepped on the scale at 114.85 lbs, to schedule their 12-rounder regional title bout.
Flores, 25, of Davao del Norte, is accompanied by veteran boxing trainer Nonito Donaire Sr., the father of four-division world champion Nonito Jr.
They arrived in Australia last Wednesday.
This will be Flores’ second time to fight abroad. He fought in the United States last year against Latin-American Antonio Nieves but lost to an eight-rounder unanimous decision, staining his erstwhile unbeaten record.
Flores currently has 13 wins with seven knockouts and one defeat.
Meanwhile, the 32-year-old Moloney, one of the famous Moloney boxing twins, dwarfs Flores’ record with his 25-3 (win-loss) mark and 16 knockouts.
Andrew is the twin brother of Jason “Mayhem” Moloney, the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) world bantamweight champion who also has a title defense on January 13 in Quebec City, Canada, against Saul Sanchez of the United States.
Andrew is also the former WBO International super flyweight champion and former WBA interim world super flyweight champion.
This will be Moloney’s first fight since May after losing his world title shot against Japanese Junto Nakatani via a knockout. At stake was the WBO world super flyweight title.
On the other hand, Flores is on a three-fight winning streak against fellow Filipino foes since 2022.
