Engineers clinch victories, architects struggle in AEBC Buildrite Cup 2023

CEBU CITY, Philippines— The Electrical Engineers-Floortek and the Mechanical Engineers A-Smart Bond grabbed crucial victories as the quarterfinals of the Architects & Engineers Basketball Club (AEBC) Buildrite Cup 2023 looms.

The Electrical Engineers-Floortek and the Mechanical Engineers A-Smart Bond now have two wins and two losses in Bracket B, to create a three-way tie with another team, the Civil Engineers 1-Stop Gap.

With that in mind, the three teams must win their last two remaining games to boost their chances of advancing to the quarterfinals in Bracket B.

In the last weekend’s games, Electrical Engineers-Floortek beat the United Architects of the Philippines-DLL-Handy Fix, 80-66.

The Architects dropped to a 1-3 (win-loss) record, placing them at the bottom spot of Bracket B’s team standings.

John Cubar finished with a double-double game of 21 points with 20 rebounds and three assists.

Jan Manalili added 25 points, while Julio Nuera and Nestor Pacana scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Joseph Cabigas and Daren Morandante spoiled their 18-point performances each for the United Architects of the Philippines-DLL-Handy Fix.

Meanwhile, the Mechanical Engineers A-Smart Bond defeated the Civil Engineers 1-Stop Gap, 72-68, behind Wesley Viejo’s double-double game.

Viejo tallied 20 points with 14 rebounds, while Ivan Deo aided him with 19 points.

Civil Engineers’ Richie Bactol scored 20 points, while Lawrence Gayotin added 18 markers in their losing efforts.

Lastly, Bracket A’s Civil Engineers 2-Blockout and the Civil Engineers 3-Blocktite have tied their records to 1-4 (win-loss).

This was after Civil Engineers 2-Blockout beat Civil Engineers 3-Blocktite, 64-59.

Manuel Veloso Jr. scored 19 points, while John Tangapa added 13 markers for Blockout.

Enrico Reyes had a double-double outing for Blocktite, scoring 17 points with 13 boards, but it wasn’t enough to give his team their second win.
