Thief arrested after being trapped inside pawnshop in Cebu City for hours

A thief landed in jail after he was trapped for several hours inside a Cebu City pawnshop he was ransacking early this morning.
Enforcers from Cebu City’s K9 Unit first responded to a burglary alarm along N. Bacalso Avenue.

The alarm came from the security alert system of a popular pawnshop and remittance outlet located near a private university along the highway.

A few minutes later, police from the Labangon Police Station led by its chief, Police Major Angelito Valleser, went to the area to check. They then discovered a man who broke inside the pawnshop, and failed to escape.

The trapped thief was identified as Juanito Dilvo Jr., 27, from Agusan Del Sur. Dilvo currently resides in Mandaue City.

Cebu City Council OKs cut in promised P35,000 bonus to P20,000 for gov’t workers

Meanwhile, the Cebu City Council has agreed to revise the bonus scheme for both casual and regular employees from 35,000 pesos to 20,000 pesos.

In October, Mayor Michael Rama announced a 35,000-peso Christmas bonus for city hall employees, both casual and regular staff.

Vice Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia even told CDN Digital that city hall employees could anticipate receiving their bonus by early November, with the latest disbursement expected in December, just in time for Christmas.

However, during the deliberation of the budget on December 13, Cebu City Councilor Noel Wenceslao, the chairman of the committee on budget and finance, revealed that city councilors had reached a consensus to align the bonus amount with what President Marcos proposed for all government employees which is 20,000 pesos.

Job order employees, who were initially slated to get 10,000-peso bonus, will now only receive 5,000 pesos.

In other news, the low-pressure area, which has been spotted at 1,865 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao at 3 a.m. today, has a low chance of developing into a typhoon, Pagasa-Mactan said.

Engineer Al Quiblat, the chief of Pagasa-Mactan said the LPA is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Saturday, November 16.

Quiblat said that the LPA on Sunday, December 17, would get closer to the eastern portion of Visayas and Mindanao, so the public should expect a rainy season on Sunday in those areas.

Quiblat added that as of today, they had not seen any significant effect of the LPA to Central Visayas for the next three days.
