CEBU CITY, Philippines— The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters secured three gold medals in the recently concluded Cebu City Olympics

CEBU CITY, Philippines— The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters secured three gold medals in the recently concluded Cebu City Olympics chess tournament held at SM Seaside City Cebu this week.

After seven rounds of competition, John Dave Lavandero, Edelyn Vosotros, and Adina Vera Kwan dominated their respective categories. Importantly, they will represent Cebu City in the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) in April.

Lavandero was the sole woodpusher among 29 other competitors, scoring a near-perfect 6.5 points to emerge as the secondary boys’ gold medalist.

His teammate, Sean Kenneth Cogonon, settled for the silver medal, while Aaron John Resma earned the bronze medal.

In the secondary girls’ division, Vosotros finished her campaign with a perfect 7.0 total score.

University of San Jose-Recoletos’ Kristina Concepcion Belano claimed the silver medal with 6.0 points, while Maria Kristine Lavandero of UC finished with a bronze medal.

Completing UC’s gold medal run was Kwan, who topped the elementary girls’ division and finished with a perfect 7.0 total score.

Blair Serbise of PAREF Southcrest earned the silver medal with 6.0 points, while Cherry Rose Cabarles of Talamban Elementary School bagged the bronze medal with 5.0 points.

Also securing a gold medal was Lex Padayao in the elementary boys’ division. Padayao, from Mabolo Elementary School, scored a perfect 7.0 total points, while Lahug Elementary School’s Ethan Richtoff Carbonilla settled for the silver medal with 6.0 points.

The tournament was supervised by National Arbiter Edwin Cablao, who served as the tournament director, along with International Master (IM) Kim Steven Yap and International Arbiter (IA) Kevin Yap from the Cebu School of Chess.
