Korean firm to do BRT detailed engineering design

A Korean firm won the bidding for the detailed engineering design of Cebu’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting is the developer of the BRT in  the Gangnam District, Seoul, South Korea.

It still has  to wait for a notice to proceed from the  Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) before it can start the actual work.

“The Notice of Award was issued to Kunhwa Engineering and Consulting last April 20. It’s a bit delayed since we were expecting it to be awarded last February,” said Cebu BRT Project Management Office head Rafael Yap.

Under DOTC’s procurement calendar  posted in their website, the national agency will have to enter into contract with the winning bidder within 10 days  before a notice to proceed will be issued on Kunhwa.

Yap said the BRT’s detailed engineering design will take eight months to complete.

Established in 1990, Kunhwa specializes in  road and transportation engineering, water supply and wastewater disposal, river engineering and water resource development, dam and hydropower development, harbor and coastal engineering, and urban and regional planning.
