The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars finally barged into the win column and got their first victory in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup after they defeated the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals, 85-74, yesterday at the Arena in San Juan City.
Showing the kind of toughness expected of them by head coach Jun Noel, the Jaguars employed their frenetic defense to come away with easy baskets that netted them double-figure leads all game-long en route to snatching their first win in three games.
Cesafi Mythical Five member Kevin Villafranca led USJ-R with 16 points and seven rebounds while veteran guard James Regalado shone down the stretch to help the squad weather a late comeback attempt by the Generals. He finished with 15 markers while Miguel Gastador had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Sydney Onwubere led EAC with 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
USJ-R aims to even up its record today when it battles the Perpetual Help Altas.
