The Philippine government has rendered more than P77 million in financial assistance to the families of the “Gallant 44,” members of the Special Action Force killed in pursuit of wanted terrorists in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Jan. 25.
In a press statement on Tuesday, the Philippine National Police reported that as of March 31, a total of P77,176,441.30, in lump-sum allocations, pensions and other benefits, has already been turned over to the SAF 44’s beneficiaries.
The financial assistance was detailed by PNP officer-in-charge Police Deputy Director General Leonardo A. Espina, in a report to Interior and Local Government secretary Mar Roxas.
Of the more than P77 million, P11 million came from the President’s Social Fund–Special Financial Assistance; P7,682,433 came from the PNP’s Special Financial Assistance; P9,604,944.52 came from the PNP’s Commutation of Accumulative Leaves; P2,893,431 came from the Napolcom’s burial benefits, and P11,573,724 came from the Napolcom’s gratuity benefits.
The PNP has also rendered P1,143,921.56 in pension benefits, while the Napolcom has given P490,193.80.
The Safety Mutual Benefits Fund Inc. has also rendered P24,537,793.42 in benefits, while the Philippine Senate has donated P5,150,000. The Dasmarinas, Cavite local government also donated P3,100,000 to the SAF beneficiaries, the PNP said.
