A newborn baby girl was rescued after she was tossed out of a window of a house in plush Maria Luisa Estate Subdivision, Cebu City past 4 a.m. yesterday.
The mother, a housemaid, had just given birth in the comfort room at the second floor of the house.
SP01 Achilles Sanchez, investigator of the Mabolo Police Station, said a security guard of the house found the infant entangled in the vines near a cliff at the back of the house.
The security guard Richard Ryan Villamor said he heard a baby crying loudly and asked the assistance of the subdivision guard to check the area.
They found a newborn baby with her umbilical cord still intact.
“Maayo nalang kay nasangit sa mga bagon diha sa punoan sa kahoy likod sa balay, kay kon wa pa, posibleng mahug gyod to sa pangpang. Ang iyang kamot nabubod sa bagon unya murag nangupot gyod siya. Murag gusto gyud niyang mabuhi (It’s a good thing the baby got caught in the vines of the tree at the back of the house otherwise she would have fallen off the cliff. The baby’s hands were holding on to the vines. It was if she really wanted to live), Sanchez said.

The baby sustained minor scratches in her body and was brought to the Cebu City Medical Center. She is now in stable condition, Sanchez added.
The identity of the mother and her employer was not declared in the police record. Only the name of the security guard who reported the incident appeared.
The guard, Villamor, said he noticed bloodstains on the housemaid’s dress and then learned that she had just given birth.
Investigation revealed that the baby’s mother and sister worked in the same house.
The mother had kept her pregnancy a secret. She has a common-law husband and four children in Bohol. The woman refused to talk to police investigators. She was pale and in a state of shock prompting police to bring her to a hospital.
Sanchez said the police coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare and Services so that social workers would take the baby and the mother under their charge.
