THE municipality of San Francisco in Camotes Island, northeast Cebu, now has a complete set of town officials.
The vacancy left with the death of Vice Mayor Allan Arquillano was filled by the highest ranking councilor, Aaron Capao Jr., based on succession.
With his elevation, the eighth seat in the municipal council is now occupied by Alfredo “Al” Arquillano, former mayor of San Francisco who led the town’s grassroots campaign that won the United Nation’s Sasakawa award for disaster risk reduction in 2011.
Al was appointed by Gov. Hilario Davide III to complete the council.
(Cebu Daily News erroneously reported on May 9 that Al was sworn in as the new vice mayor.)
Al is the older brother of Allan, the late vice mayor, who died last March 23 of complications arising from neuroendocrine cancer.
Al, the new municipal councilor was nominated by his party, Barug Alang sa Kauswagan Ug Demokrasya (Bakud) and took his oath of office before Governor Davide in the Capitol last May 7.
