Alan Calma earns crucial pole position after topping qualifying race in Vios Cup 2

Alan Calma of Team Toyota Alabang put up a solid performance to top the qualifying race of the Vios Cup Season 2 Cebu leg yesterday at the South Road Properties (SRP), Cebu City.

Calma completed the 12-lap qualifying race with the best time of one minute and 12 seconds. His second best was 1:13.425.

Calma thus earned the crucial pole position in the sporting class for today’s actual race which will cover a distance of 1.6-kilometers.

Calma, riding car number 97, will compete against 11 other drivers.

Toyota Quezon Avenue’s Allan Uy (car number 26) will be at the second position in the sporting class after finishing the qualifying race with 1:13.161. Victor Buensuceso (78) will be at third spot with 1:13.805 followed by Daniel Miranda (20) with 1:13.875.

Last year’s champion 16-year-old Luis Gono (17) of Toyota North Edsa will be positioned at fifth after finishing yesterday’s race at 1:13.962 followed by Dominic Ochoa (25), who timed 1:14.140.

Seventh and eighth in today’s starting position will be Bobby Domingo (15) and Raymond Ronquillo (87) after timing 1:14.229 and 1:14.371, respectively.

Eighteen-year-old Cebuano ace karter Jette Calderon (42) will be positioned at ninth spot (1:14.372). Another Cebuano participant Lord Seno (43) will be at the tail end of the pack after he placed 12th with 1:18.152 behind senator JV Ejercito (24), who timed 1:17.790.

In the promotional class, defending champion Sam YG of car number six secured the pole position by clocking in 1:15.715 and will lead today’s pack of 19 drivers.

Trailing Sam YG is actor Derek Ramsay (14) with a time of 1:18.104 followed by Paolo Rodriguez with 1:18.346. Ferdinand Dysico was at fourth with 1:18.546.

Phoemela Baranda (12) will be at fifth with 1:18.576 followed by another celebrity racer Jinno Rufino (10) with 1:18.727. Jasmine Curtis Smith (2) will be positioned at seventh place after clocking in 1:19.101.

Fabio Ide (5) and Kylie Padilla will be at the 16th and 19th positions.
