Cebuano Abigail Praca part of PH Team to China
After a promising stint in the 1st Asian Women’s Under-23 Volleyball Championship a few weeks ago, the Philippines continues in its bid for international acclaim as they compete in the 18th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship starting today at the Tianjin Olympic Center Stadium in Tianjin, China.
Making the final cut for the national team that is being represented by stalwarts from the Philippine Superliga is Cebuana spiker Maria Abigail Praca, a former standout from the University of San Jose-Recoletos who is now playing for Mane ‘n Tail Lady Stallions.
She will be joined on the squad by other aces such as Frances Molina, Ivy Perez and Carmina Aganon from the recently-crowned champions Petron Blaze Spikers; Kim Dy from the runners-up Shopinas Lady Clickers; Myla Pablo, Iris
Tolenada and Melissa Gohing from Philips Gold; and Jheck Dionela, Lourdes Clemente, Jeanette Panaga from Cignal.
Coaching the squad will be Sammy Acaylar while serving as skipper is Michelle Gumabao.
The Philippines has been bracketed in Pool D along with South Korea, Kazakhstan and Australia who they will face today.
Excluding Japan, the top three teams of this tournament will claim the right to compete in the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in May of next year.
