CEBU Gov. Hilario Davide III said he would need a thorough study on a proposal to make the province a sanctuary of birds and bats.
“I need to also take a look at that recommendation, how they were able to draw the conclusion that says its necessary to declare Cebu a sanctuary for birds and bats,” said Davide.
He was asked about the proposal mentioned in a meeting of the Cebu Provincial Development Council to draft a resolution asking the PB to enact an ordinance for the declaration.
Leonardo Moneva, PDC chairman of the committee of environment, said the declaration is important to protect birds and bats in the province.
Moneva said capturing and hunting them should be prohibited.
Moneva said they will endorse the resolution during the next PDC meeting on June 10.
Cebu has an international wetland and bird sanctuary in Olango Island.
At least 90 bird species are seen in the island.
These include Common Sandpiper, Terek Sandpiper, Grey-tailed Tattler, Common Redshank, Grater Sand-Plover, and Little Heronand among others.
