MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes is set to issue a memorandum for the singing of the “Bagong Pilipinas” hymn and the recitation of the pledge after flag-raising ceremonies for all city employees.
On Tuesday, June 18, Cortes said that this is in line with the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on the mandatory recitation of the hymn and pledge.
The mayor said that the singing and recitation might be implemented in the city starting next week.
Cortes added that, aside from the weekly flag-raising ceremony, the Bagong Pilipinas hymn will also be played during events in Mandaue City.
An employee of the city hall, who refused to be named, said that she is not familiar with the Bagong Pilipinas hymn and pledge.
She said that if Mayor Cortes issues a memorandum, she will memorize the lyrics and the pledge.
Memorandum Circular No. 52, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on behalf of the President on Tuesday, June 4, aims to “further instill the principles of the Bagong Pilipinas brand of governance and leadership among Filipinos.”
The directive covers national government agencies, government-owned or controlled corporations (GOCCs), and educational institutions, including state universities and colleges (SUCs).
Local government units are also encouraged to integrate the singing of the hymn and the pledge.
