CEBU CITY, Philippines — Unbeaten Filipino prospect Weljon “Triggerman” Mindoro will make his much-awaited debut in the United States next month.
The 24-year-old Mindoro of Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur will fight in Plant City, Florida on July 10, against Mahonri Montes of Mexico.
Mindoro, one of the very few super welterweight prospects in the Philippines, will fight Mahonri for eight rounds. Their bout is part of the undercard of Pro Box Promotions’ fight card.

His last fight was in July last year against Japanese Mao Tameda. He knocked out the Japanese boxer in the first round to clinch his 11th win and 11th knockout.
Mindoro has an impressive resume as he’s also the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super welterweight champion.
Meanwhile, his opponent, Mahonri is a veteran journeyman with a record of 36 wins, 25 knockouts, 10 defeats, and two draws.
His most previous bout ended in a split draw in Mexico against countryman Jesus Valenzuela in April 2023.
