A WANTED man accused of killing his mother was arrested by police in barangay Pasil, Cebu City before noon yesterday.
Eldrid Torreliza, 33, went to the Pasil port to pick up family members arriving from Bohol when he was arrested by operatives of the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB) of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
The arrest was based on a warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Marivic Dakay.
The parricide case filed against Torreliza is non-bailable, said Chief Insp. Aileen Recla, chief of the IDMB.
The suspect’s mother was killed and her body was chopped up and placed in a sack in barangay Poblacion, Getafe, Bohol, police said.
Torreliza denied the accusation against him.
“Limpyo ang akong konsensya nga wa ko nagpatay sa akong mama (My conscience is clean. I did not kill my mother),” he said.
The suspect has three children.
His wife is a teacher assigned in Pandanon Island in Bohol.
Torreliza was placed under surveillance for two weeks after police received a report that the man was hiding in Pasil.
Torreliza said he fled Bohol on the advice of his lawyer when he learned that he was tagged a suspect in his mother’s death.
He will be turned over to police counterparts in Bohol.
A 22-YEAR-OLD street vendor was stabbed by his half-brother in barangay Poblacion, Oslob town, southern Cebu.
Marlito Teves was stabbed in the abdomen.
Police said Teves were drinking with his half-brothers Christopher Gomera and Vincent Sereñas when they argued about their sale territories where they would peddle their goods.
At the height of the argument, Gomera took a broken beer bottle and stabbed Teves.
Teves was taken to the town’s hospital.
Police said Gomera and Sereñas were arrested then later released after the parties settled the case amicably and refused to file complaints.
