THE EcoWaste Coalition has called on the public to recycle school supplies and reuse uniforms.
The group, a network that helps in the promotion of zero waste resource management for environment, health and justice, said parents should first check whether old uniforms and supplies can still be used before shopping for new ones.
Aileen Lucero of Ecowaste Coalition said recycling school supplies can lessen impulsive consumption that can stretch the family’s tight budget and, at the same time, minimize waste and pollution.
To reuse notebooks, she said clean sheets from old notebooks may be rewired or sewed together.
Parents should also look into buying durable materials such as refillable pens and reusable folders and binders.
Before shopping for uniforms and shoes, the coalition advised parents to have old uniforms of their children altered and their shoes repaired. /Correspondent Apple Mae Ta-as
