DepEd to finance P350-M budget
At least 352 classrooms are set to be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Cebu City in line with the implementation of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) K-12 program next school year.
Ronald Diola, chairman of the Cebu City Local School Board, said the DPWH will bid out 214 of the 352 classrooms that will accommodate the first batch of K-12 students (grades 11 and 12).
Diola said DPWH will construct the classrooms whose budget amounting to P350 million will be taken from Basic Education Facility Fund of DepEd.
Diola said the city is also planning to build another 350 classrooms for kindergarten to high school. The city’s Special Education Fund will be used to finance construction.
He said the city is planning to build more classrooms for day classes to accommodate the students who might be affected by their plan to scrap the night high school.
“Our mayor (Mike Rama) said that he wants the students to have normal growth. Kanang mo-eskwela sa buntag unya matulog sa gabii,” he said.
