CFA, PFF to hold referees’ course

With the goal to provide more good quality referees here in the Visayas region, the Cebu Football Association (CFA) in partnership with the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) will conduct a four-day level-4 referees’ course and training seminar at the Cebu City Sports Center on June 25-28.

Rodney Orale of the CFA said they will cater around 30 local football referees in the four-day training course as part of the planned year-long program that also aims to give participants a certified level 2 referee’s license at the end of the year to answer the growing demands for licensed referees who can handle matches in the Visayas.

Orale said the PFF will be sending two instructors to handle the seminar that will be handling theoretical and field training.

“The main goal of this four-day seminar is to provide level-4 referees in areas in the Visayas that need them,” Orale said. “This will also refresh the referees’ knowledge in the basic ground rules of football and correct the common mistakes they make when handling matches.”

Orale has yet to confirm the names of the two PFF instructors who will spearhead the four-day seminar.

After the level-four seminar, Orale said they are planning to hold levels three and two referees’ seminars before the year ends.

Level one seminar, which entitles each participant a national level referee’s license, can be done in Manila.

The participants’ selection was done by CFA. They selected the referees who are consistent in officiating matches here in Cebu.

Orale also added that they are also considering to add five more participants in the upcoming seminar upon the request of the Department of Education (DepEd).

DepEd is running short of referees who will officiate football games in the upcoming Cebu City Olympics and Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association.
