The University of Cebu has awarded a full scholarship from kindergarten to medical school to the first baby born at the UC Medical Center (UCMed), the new P2-billion hospital of UC located in barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

UCMed has world-class amenities and services at affordable cost. It has 300 beds and 500 suites.

Baby boy Michael Augusto Ediong was born at 4:55 p.m. last June 16 to parents Dexter and Janine Ediong. He weighed 7.10 pounds.

The newborn was named after UC President, Atty. Augusto W. Go not only because he was the first baby born in UCMed but also because his maternal grandparents were working students of Cebu Central Colleges (now University of Cebu).

The baby’s grandmother, Helen, has been working at UC for the past 38 years.  The baby’s mother, Janine, is a nurse at UCMed.

The parents were grateful for the kindness of Atty. Go and UC Chancellor Candice Gotianuy.

“My heart responds to those who are humble, loyal, unassuming, hard working, and committed,” Gotianuy said.

“Welcome to the world Michael. May you make the most of what the world offers you,” Gotianuy said.
