2-month PUJ rerouting for APEC Summit

PUBLIC utility jeepneys (PUJs) will be rerouted from August to September, the  entire duration of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Cebu.

In the Cebu City Traffic Operation Management (CITOM) rerouting plan, no PUJs will be allowed to traverse Juan Luna Avenue from Serging Osmeña Avenue to Archbishop Reyes Avenue.

Rerouting will be implemented from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Other affected jeepney routes are those from the north, PUJ with route numbers 03Q,  06H, 04L, 04M, 03L,

PUJs bound for SM and North Bus Terminal, Mabolo jeepneys and those with route numbers 17B, 17C, 17D, 04B and 04C.

Citom executive director Rafael Christopher Yap said that they did not implement the scheme of having  APEC Exclusive lanes after they found out it is not feasible because of the city’s narrow roads.

“Other countries that implemented APEC lanes have really, really wide roads,” Yap said.

Citom decided to come up with other strategies like managing the traffic signals which can be overridden remotely should there be a need to prioritize a particular leg of the corridor for the delegates.

Enough number of traffic and police personnel will also be deployed to ensure a smooth flow in all  major intersections. They will be equipped with radio transceivers to ensure communication with headquarters.

No Parking on the road right of way of the corridor and linking roads will be strictly enforced.

Yap said that he already sent the rerouting plan to the security cluster for the APEC National Organizing Committee, Cebu Provincial Capitol and it is subject for Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama’s approval.

A dry run of the rerouting scheme will be done in the middle of July.
