A stretch of road in barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City derisively dubbed by residents and passersby as “Boracay” due to a stagnant stretch of water there may soon lose its moniker.
The Office of the Building Official (OBO) of the Mandaue City government said it filed expropriation proceedings on a private lot owner who blocked the implementation of a drainage project that could have solved the problem.
Architect Florentino Nimor of the OBO said they are now waiting for the court to decide on their petition.
Eddie Chavez, a 54-year-old resident of the area, said “Boracay” came about after private lot owners started fencing their properties and blocked the natural waterway with filling materials.
A portion of the drainage project near the Butuanon River had been completed but the project was stalled after the Damallos family refused to allow its completion since part of their property will be used.
