A POLICEMAN was wounded after he and his fellow policemen were ambushed while responding to a report of a pot session in San Francisco town, Camotes Island.
PO1 Demar Muana, an operative of the Alert Team of the San Francisco Police Station, sustained six gunshot wounds in the body.
Muana was one of the seven policemen who responded to a report that there was a group of people using illegal drugs in barangay Sta. Cruz last Saturday afternoon.
The report was received around 2 p.m, said SPO3 Epifanio Sanjorjo, acting chief of the San Francisco police.
When the policemen, who rode on motorcycles, arrived in a grassy area, unidentified men rained them with bullets.
The policemen dropped to the ground and returned fire.
One of those who fired shots at the police was identified as Alex Oteda, who is allegedly a drug pusher in the area.
Police said the assailants escaped. Police returned to the area yesterday morning and arrested a certain Elizar.
Police alleged that Elizar was Oteda’s errand boy and also served as a spotter. He slept in a tree house, where four packs of suspected shabu worth P60,000, drug paraphernalia and a loaded KG9 sub-machine pistol were allegedly found.
Police said it was possible that Elizar had alerted his alleged cohorts on the policemen’s arrival.
