Mighty Geeks, four others survive knockout matches

FIVE teams hitched on the last ride to the semifinals after they bested their respective opponents in their knockout quarterfinal games in the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference Summer League last weekend at the USC North Campus gym along Mango Avenue.

In Division 1, the 1986 Mighty Geeks took care of the 1990 Titans-Modern Solutions, 80-70, behind the huge 30-point production of Arturo Mata.

The 1988 Barakos also slipped past the Bai 91, 55-47, to book their semifinal spot. Edmund Odulio helped carry the Barakos to the Final Four with his 28 markers.

This set up  semifinals match-ups between the Barakos and the 1993 Dragons; and the Mighty Geeks and the powerhouse 1985 Androids-Aceite de Manzanilla.

In Division 2, Millennium 2000 punched its ticket to the next round after beating the Sipat 98, 76-67. Lex Lauron and Bon Rosito were a formidable one-two punch for the winning side as the former led with 23 points and the latter scattered 19 markers. Millennium will next face the 1994 Bulldogs while the 1999ers take on the Dos Mil Uno-Lite Shipping in the semifinals.
