Two Cebu Doctors’ University (CDU) graduates topped the July 2015 Radiologic Technologist Licensure Examination.
Melanel Shine Reyes Fuentes landed in first place with an average rating of 89.6 percent while Krisnalyn Deiparine Las Piñas ranked 10th with an average rating of 87.2 percent.
They were among the 1,325 successful examinees out of 3,043 who took the examination administered by the Board of Radiologic Technology in Manila, Davao, Iloilo and Tuguegarao three days earlier.
Fuentes tied in first place with Patrick Deompoc Agaloos from St. Jude College–Dasmariñas, Cavite.
“I only prayed that I would pass but the results of the examination were beyond what I expected,” Fuentes told Cebu Daily News.
She was consistently in the Dean’s List and graduated with honors from CDU last March 2015. She was the class valedictorian in Ibabao Elementary School and garnered first honorable mention in high school at Cordova Academy.
The 20-year-old topnotcher hails from Cordova, Cebu and is the eldest of two siblings. She was an academic scholar of the Commission on Higher Education (Ched-7).
Fuentes said her first choice was to take up Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing but because of the declining demand for nurses overseas, her mother advised her to take up BS in Radiologic Technology instead.
“I did not regret following her advice,” Fuentes said.
She plans to either teach or take further studies in medicine. She also plans to work overseas.
To other examinees, Fuentes said: “Always pray to God, have faith in Him. Whatever you do, plan ahead.”
