THE Kyocera Frontiers bucked a badly depleted lineup in pulling off a 55-51 win over the Calltek Trojans last Saturday in the Evo League of the 11th City Sports Club-Cebu (CSC-C) E-League for Basketball at the CSC-C Gym.
Kyocera went into the match with a depleted manpower after the league penalized the squad for violating a rule requiring a team to have at least eight uniformed players during the opening ceremonies the other week.
The Frontiers only had six players during the opening ceremonies and those players were the only ones who were allowed to suit up against the Trojans.
Kyocera gamely took the challenge and rose above it as Randel Tutor fired 20 points and Junrey Cabarrubias and Steven Tan combined for 25 points to spearhead the gallant win.
Aerl Genebraldo finished with 22 points and Jan Pierre Gellez added 15 for the Trojans, who actually led at the half, 31-26.
In the other Evo League encounter, the Contact Solutions El-Slazenger bounced back from a sorry opening day loss by edging out the Teletech Titans, 66-63.
Roberto Castro Jr. led the way with 24 points while Saviour Malalay contributed 13 for Contact Solutions, which recovered from a 60-64 overtime loss to The Results Companies Spartans.
Jonas Concepcion finished with a game-high 31 points for the Titans, while Mark Anthony Manigque chipped in 12 markers.
In the lone Elite Classic game, the Sykes Pioneers used a searing 21-8 first quarter run to get rid of the SSI Warriors, 66-57.
