CCSC continues helping Cebu’s youth

THE CEBU City Sports Commission (CCSC) continues its drive to help less fortunate kids in Cebu get more training in sports.

Last July 10, CCSC trained its second batch of Badjao kids in swimming under the watch of Cebu Blue Marlins coach Rolando Alvarez at the Cebu City Sports Institute.

These 50 Badjaos were given the privilege to preserve and sustain their culture of swimming, and at the same time get additional techniques from Alvarez, who has trained numerous multi-titled swimmers with the CBM team.

“They are trained not just in swimming but also taught discipline and hope,” CCSC chairman Edward Hayco said.

Last Saturday, street children, children in conflict with law (CICL) and children at risk (CAR) were also trained in different sports such as archery, boxing, and volleyball.

For archery, these children were trained by coach Pacheco Valenzona and PJ delos Reyes.

CCSC is also geared towards introducing air rifle in Cebu’s public schools with the help of Spanish air rifle coach Miguel Tajuelo Rodriguez.

“Air rifle training will start Saturday next week with 60 volunteers from the Department of Education. After training, there will be 30 schools that will be participating, involving 3,000 kids. I hope we’ll get the numbers right,” Hayco said.
