Instead of landing an instant rematch against IBF World flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng, Ormoc City’s Johnriel “Quadro Alas” Casimero is instead being lined up for another title eliminator against McWilliams Arroyo of Puerto Rico later this year.
Casimero failed to snatch Ruenroeng’s IBF world title last month in a very controversial and foul-marred bout held in the latter’s own backyard in Bangkok, Thailand. The bout ended in a unanimous decision victory for the constantly running Thai.
The winner between Casimero (21-3, 13KOs) and Arroyo (16-2, 14KOs) will challenge the unbeaten Ruenroeng (16-0, 5KOs).
Casimero already went through a title eliminator bout last year in Mexico against Armando Santos which the Omega Boxing Gym star won via second round knockout.
To keep Casimero the number one contender in his division, his promoters, Samson Gello-ani and Sampson Lewkowicz decided to pit him against the Puerto Rican Arroyo.
Gello-ani said he is very confident that Casimero will overcome Arroyo in the upcoming bout the date of which is yet to be announced.
Arroyo’s most previous bout ended in a spectacular third round knock out of Victor Ruiz last April. The power-fisted Puerto Rican also stopped Filipino Rey Saludar in Puerto Rico last year.
His brother, Mcjoe Arroyo was recently crowned the new IBF world super flyweight champion in another controversial bout against ALA Boxing Gym’s “King” Arthur Villanueva via a 10th round technical decision last Sunday in El Paso, Texas, USA.
