The PBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player Cebuano June Mar Fajardo will not be playing for the Gilas Pilipinas in the 2015 Fiba Asia Championships after he begged off from taking part in the training pool citing the need to rest his injured foot.

The gentle giant from Pinamungajan town midwest Cebu confirmed the development in an interview with Inquirer.net.

“Skip muna ako sa Gilas,” said the former University of Cebu standout while resting in his hometown.

In an earlier talk with Cebu Daily News, Fajardo divulged that he was having trouble walking because of the pain brought about by the plantar fasciitis that he was suffering on both feet.

Fajardo said that he has yet to reach out to the Gilas’ American head coach Tab Baldwin about his decision but expressed his apologies to those who were looking for him to be centerpiece of a team that was aiming to book a slot in the 2016 Summer Olympics basketball tournament in Brazil.

The 6-foot-10 sentinel of San Miguel, though, bared that he wished to take part in national duties once he is already 100 percent.
