Hobbled by a foot injury, Cebuano center June Mar Fajardo remains unsure of his participation in the Gilas Pilipinas, who are set to start their practice sessions tomorrow.
Fajardo, the two-time PBA MVP, said he needs time to recover from plantar fascitis.
“Sa karon sakit jud siya. Lisud gali kaayo ilakaw,” said Fajardo in his native tongue. “Lisud man kaayo gud kung muduwa ko tapos dili ko healthy, wala ra gihapon koy matabang.”
Fajardo added that during the season, he was advised by renowned sports doctor Jose Canlas to skip some practices to give his foot time to heal. However, with the San Miguel Beermen chasing a second title this past season, he was forced to gut it out.
“Giingnan na gali ko ni Dr. Canlas na ayaw nag balik didto sa iyaha kay mao ra gihapon daw dili man nako sundon unsa iya instructions,” shared Fajardo with a laugh.
With Fajardo still unsure of joining the Gilas, and several more in the same boat as him, the big man felt sad with the recent developments involving the national squad.
“Makaguol pero in-ana jud na. Naa man mga injuries ang mga players. Dili sad nato mapugos.”
The 6-foot-10 Cebuano yesterday was back at his old stomping grounds at the Cebu Coliseum where he received a special award from the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi), a league he absolutely dominated and won titles with the University of Cebu (UC) back in 2010 and 2011.
Fajardo, who was set to fly back to Manila on Saturday evening, also bared that in the event that he will skip Gilas duty, he will just stay in his hometown in Pinamungajan to recover and prepare for the next PBA season.
