Warriors drop defending champs Bulldogs to 0-2

THE University of the East (UE)  Red Warriors kept the defending champion National University (NU) winless as they stunned the Bulldogs, 76-71, in the 78th UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Bon Batiller, a recruit from Holy Trinity College from General Santos City, was the biggest thorn on NU’s side as he pumped in 23 points to lead the Red Warriors to a bounce-back win after opening this season with a loss to the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons.

Edgar Charcos added 12 points while Paul Varilla tallied 11 for the Red Warriors, who took control of the game in the third where they outscored the Bulldogs, 28-9.
In the first game, the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles hacked out a 84-60 win over the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons for their first win of the season.

Kiefer Ravena scattered 24 points as the Blue Eagles leaned on a huge third period performance to put the pesky Falcons away.
Von Pessumal chipped in 12 points while rookie Aaron Black debuted this season with 11 markers spiked by a perfect 3-of-3 shooting from rainbow country .
